I've Got It Under Control

If you are like me, you have made this statement in a crisis situation ... "It's OK, I've got everything under control."
We become stressed out when things are out of kilter, so much so that we feel that we, or someone, has to do something to get it back upright.  Fact is that we never had, nor will we ever have anything under control in life's circumstances.
Do you remember the nursery rhyme:
"Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the king's horses
And all the king's men,
Couldn't put Humpty Dumpty
Back together again."
We chuckle about this children's storybook tale ... to think that an egg named Humpty Dumpty could even sit on a wall is fanciful.  However, the story behind the story is the premise of our attempts to control or fix things.  Again, the fact is that we never had, nor will we ever have anything under control in life's circumstances.
But, generation after generation comes and goes and still we continue to interject our way. What we need to learn is that though we have "no control" we have a God who has "everything under control!"  When I (we) try to control circumstances, what we really are saying is that we do not trust that God will do anything about this or that.
He has proven His willingness and capability to take the reins of circumstances and adjust the direction of what seems to us to be a world out of whack.  We must remember that the eternal, all-knowing, all-powerful, loving and sovereign God has a plan and nothing ... absolutely nothing will get in His way of accomplishing that plan.
God has given us ... those who believe and trust in Him ... the privilege of going along for the ride.  There is a TV commercial from a travel company which says something like, "If you could get a 60% discount on a hotel but you can't know the name of the hotel, would trust us."  The answer comes back, "Yes!"
God has a plan for us ... a fantastic voyage, if you will ... and there is a mansion prepared for those who believe and have faith (John 14:1ff).  Actually, in His Word, He has shown us a picture of that place and all we need do is say, "Yes!"
Do we have control of our circumstances ... No!  Do we know who does have control ... Yes!  I like the saying, "Let loose and let God!"  This is faith ... living faith.  Colossians 2:6 says, "So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord (by faith) continue to live your lives in Him (by faith)."
Finally, this is not quitting and doing nothing ... rather it is day by day, moment by moment getting our marching orders from God.  Jeremiah 33:3 says, "Ask me and I will show you great and mighty things which are yet to come."  God has America and the rest of the world under control ... we may not see it clearly, but there is nothing, absolutely nothing that slips by His watchful eye.  He will do what He says ... and, as Moses said, "Do not fear, stand by and see the salvation of the Lord which He will accomplish for you today!" (Exodus 14:13a)
